The Spartan’s women’s soccer team played host to visiting Frostburg St. Bobcats (FSU) at 4 p.m. Wednesday. The game was without a goal up until the end of the second half. FSU was able to capitalize on a loose ball in front of the net for the lone goal of the game.
The Spartan offense was missing for the majority of the game, only mustering one shot on goal. York’s best chance to add a goal came in minute 21 as freshman midfielder Georgia Gillcrist had her shot hit off the left post, just missing the side of the net. The second half was almost identical to the first. York had trouble maintaining possession of the ball. Their troubles of getting shots on goal continued in the second half. In minute 82 Bobcats forward Brooke Shehade found the back of the net to break the scoreless tie. York tried to answer back but was unable to. FSU tried to have an insurance goal, but York freshman goalie Brittany Cullison made a number a key saves to help keep her team in the game. York was outshot by the visiting Bobcats 7-1.
York falls to 3-9-1 overall and 1-4 in conference play. The Spartans return to action at 5 p.m. today in Virginia to face the Southern Virginia University Knights in a Capital Athletic Conference match.
